STAIN OR CLEAR SEALANT

The right finish depends on the job.

HOW WE CHOOSE

Needs, requirements, and preferred look.

01 / APPEARANCE

How much color and grain should show?

SuperDeck stain keeps more natural wood character visible. WoodScapes creates a uniform, opaque finish. Clear sealer adds no stain color and lets the wood gray naturally.

02 / REQUIREMENTS

Does the HOA specify a product or color?

We use the current written requirement to confirm the product line, finish type, and color formula before ordering stain.

03 / CONDITION

What is already on the fence?

Wood age, moisture, weathering, prep needs, and previous coatings can affect which finish is appropriate and how the final color appears.

RICHMOND HILL HOA STAIN COLORS

Two local color names homeowners ask about often.

HOA standards can be very specific—and they can change. Owens uses the community’s current written approval rather than relying only on a color nickname.

HEARTWOOD AT RICHMOND HILL

Douglas Fir

Heartwood’s published wood-fence standard requires Sherwin-Williams SW3566 Douglas Fir in an oil-based semi-transparent stain. The current Heartwood documents and written DRC approval control the final project.

MANY RICHMOND HILL HOAs

Johnny Murphy Green

This dark green is required by many Richmond Hill-area HOAs and may also be called Buckhead Green, Commons Green, or another community-specific name.

Those names do not always guarantee the same formula. We confirm the current HOA document, approved sample, or Sherwin-Williams formula before the stain is ordered.

Color reminder: Screen colors are only a guide. Wood species, board age, grain, prep, previous coatings, and lighting can change the finished appearance. Final color and HOA approval should be confirmed before scheduling.
ON-SITE STAINING PROCESS

Preparation matters as much as the product.

FENCE STAINING FAQ

What to know before choosing a finish.

What are the main finish choices?

SuperDeck oil-based semi-transparent stain adds color while letting more grain and natural variation show. WoodScapes acrylic solid-color stain creates a uniform, opaque finish. Clear sealer adds water-repellent protection without a stain color. Fence condition, appearance, and HOA requirements determine which option fits the job.

Will clear sealant keep new wood looking the same color?

No. Clear sealant does not add pigment, and the wood is expected to gray naturally as it weathers. It is intended for customers who prefer a natural, unstained appearance and want water-repellent protection without choosing a stain color.

Can Owens stain an existing fence?

Yes. We first review the fence’s age, condition, previous coatings, and preparation needs. Some surfaces may require cleaning or additional prep before a new finish can be applied.

Can you match my HOA-required color?

We can use the current HOA document, approved color sample, or Sherwin-Williams formula supplied for the community. The homeowner is responsible for obtaining written HOA approval before work begins.

Is Johnny Murphy Green one exact Sherwin-Williams color?

It is a common local name used by many Richmond Hill-area HOAs, and it may also be called Buckhead Green or Commons Green. Because community formulas can differ, Owens verifies the current requirement rather than assuming every use of the nickname is identical.

Why can the same stain look different from one fence to another?

Wood species, grain, age, moisture, weathering, surface preparation, previous coatings, application, and lighting all affect the finished appearance. Online swatches should never replace an approved sample or current HOA documentation.

When will pre-staining be available?

The service is in development now. Owens will confirm eligible materials, finishes, lead times, and scheduling once the pre-staining operation is ready.
